THIS CALL HAS NOW CLOSED. DETAILS OF A NEW CALL WILL BE RELEASED IN EARLY 2026
The Network Plus for Analytical Behavioural Science in Security and Defence (NABS+) is pleased to announce its call for Visiting Fellowships. NABS+ is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and is part of the Building a Secure and Resilient World Theme. The Visiting Fellowship scheme is part of our commitment to develop the next generation of behavioural science and scientists for security and defence through cross-fertilisation of knowledge and skills in behavioural data analytics.
Visiting Fellowship Overview
NABS+ is committed to developing the next generation of behavioural and social science for security and defence through greater awareness of, and proficiency in, behavioural analytics. Broadly defined, behavioural analytics refers to the quantification of human behaviour and the analysis of the resulting data through advanced data analytics techniques, such as machine learning.
The Visiting Fellowship scheme offers funding for UK academics or professionals from different stakeholder groups (see eligibility section below) to spend time in a UK-HEI lab to engage in research activities that use behavioural data to understand individual, group, and/or population level risk as they relate to our broad Challenge Areas.
Fellows may range in proficiency in behavioural analytics from novice (where the Fellowship is used to develop these skills) to expert (where the Fellowship is used to apply these skills to offer novel insight and to upskill those in the host lab). As part of NABS+’ commitment to moving away from discipline and sector silos, fellows are expected to engage in activities that involve input from different disciplines and/or different sectors. All Fellowships should involve input from a behavioural or social scientist (either from the fellow themselves, or from a member of the host lab involved in the activity).
All research activities are required to gain ethical approval from the fellow's home institution and from the Security Research Ethics Committee prior to commencement. To support knowledge exchange, outputs from Fellowships will be made openly available on the NABS+ website.
Eligibility
This opportunity is open to academics from UK Higher Education Institutions, and applicants based at a UK research organisation that is eligible for UKRI funding. For ease, please see the following link: Research organisations eligible for UKRI funding – UKRI.
We strongly encourage applications from academics in all disciplines and proposals that involve engagement and partnerships with non-academic stakeholders (academics interested in spending time in a stakeholder’s lab/research group should apply to our Internship Scheme and not the Visiting Fellowship Scheme).
Students (Undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral) are not eligible to apply for this opportunity.
