A Research Assistant position is available in the Forensic Psychology Unit, in the Department of Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London. The successful candidate will work on the project entitled ‘Quantifying The Effectiveness Of An Evidence-Based Rapport-Building Training Programme’ The project runs for 12 months and is funded by the Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats (CREST). The position will be supervised by Professor Fiona Gabbert and Dr Gordon Wright. All relevant training and guidance will be supplied.
The successful candidate will initially be responsible for coordinating a comprehensive literature review examining research relevant to the development and maintenance of Rapport within the context of Investigative Interviewing. The candidate will subsequently be responsible for running an experiment testing a training programme, based on the outcomes of the preceding literature review.
The successful candidate will be skilled in systematic literature review and the objective/critical appraisal of research. They will also be able to demonstrate experience recruiting and scheduling participants for carefully controlled lab-based research, the running of such studies, and the analysis/presentation of results. It is highly desireable that the candidate will have experience of the analysis of behavioural and linguistic data and/or the coding and analysis of interview transcripts.
The applicant will have an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Psychology (or cogent discipline). S/he will be used to working independently and have excellent organisation skills. Previous experience in conducting research and collecting data, within and beyond undergraduate qualifications, will be an advantage. Excellent computer and communication skills (including SPSS) are essential.
This post is full-time and offered on a fixed term basis for a period of 12 months, starting in September 2017. The closing date for applications is 16th August 2017. Interviews are in the week commencing 21st August.
