This position is supported through Michigan State University’s Global Impact Initiative, designed to address global grand challenges and national priorities through the creation of over 100 new faculty positions in some of the most promising – and critical – fields of research. The candidate must demonstrate expertise in the area(s) of cybercrime and/or cyber-security. Preference will be given to candidates that can enhance existing areas of strength in two focus areas: 1) expertise in policing and policy issues related to the nexus of cybercrime, terrorism, and radicalization so as to improve the capacities of local, state, and federal agencies to respond to these threats; and 2) research on extremism, terrorism, and nation-state activities in online spaces, with particular emphasis on best practices for data collection to produce actionable intelligence.

Preference will also be given to candidates with experience or aptitude for external funding and those with experience or aptitude for developing community/practitioner engaged research partnerships. However, all areas of research in the space of cybercrime and cybersecurity will be considered. A Ph.D. in criminology or criminal justice, or in another relevant field, such as economics, psychology, sociology, or computer science, is required. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. prior to the position’s start date and must have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research.
