The peer review community will assess research funding proposals submitted to the SALIENT hub through one of its devolved funding calls. Peer reviewers are independent scientific or subject matter experts who draw on their knowledge and experiences to provide feedback on funding proposals.

The expectation is that you will be asked to review between 1-3 short proposals per call. The review process, aligned with UKRI procedures, will be straightforward and completed via our secure online grant application platform, ‘SALIENT Flexigrant’.

We hope you will find the proposals relevant and interesting. As an extra incentive, reviewers will also have access to opportunities organised by the SALIENT hub, specifically for the benefit of the peer-review community. SALIENT hub staff will also support community members through the promotion of relevant research activity across our networks and platforms, where appropriate, and provide recognition of your reviewing duties through an official letter. Finally, peer reviewers will gain a deeper understanding of the application and reviewing process.

We aim to run several calls between 2024 and 2029. The first call opened on the 9th December 2024 and will be open for approximately 9 weeks. The earliest you will be asked to review applications will be the 13th February 2025. We are working on the basis of a 21-day turnaround for reviews.

Crucially, joining the peer review community does not exclude you from submitting a proposal to future SALIENT calls. We ask that all members of the peer review community declare an intention to apply for a specific call. This will allow the hub to ensure that those community members do not participate in peer review.
