Dr. Debbie Ging is Associate Professor of Media Studies in the School of Communications at Dublin City University (DCU). A feminist media scholar, Debbie conducts research on gender and digital media with a focus on digital hate, online antifeminist men’s rights politics, and the Incel phenomenon. Together with Prof Siapera, she has co-edited a special issue of Feminist Media Studies on online misogyny (2018) and an edited collection entitled Gender Hate Online: Understanding the New Anti-Feminism (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019). In 2018, she was invited to participate in the Expert Group Meeting on Due Diligence to Eliminate Online Violence against Women (Washington DC), to support the UN Special Rapporteur on Online Violence against Women. Debbie sits on the editorial board of New Media & Society and is Ireland’s Corresponding Editor of Men & Masculinities. Her research on Incels and the manosphere has been widely cited in international media; she is a member of the National Anti-Bullying Research and Resource Centre as well as of the Institute for Future Media and Journalism (FuJo) in DCU.
