Paul Ward

As the Chief Scientist for the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department at MITRE, Paul Ward leads and supports multidisciplinary teams of experts who apply scientific methods and insights to address complex challenges in the public interest. With 20 years of experience in applied cognitive science and human factors, he has a proven track record of delivering innovative and impactful solutions for various domains, such as cybersecurity, health, defense, and education.
Paul Ward also holds an adjunct faculty position as Professor of Psychology at Michigan Technological University. Over the past two decades, he has conducted pioneering research and published extensively on topics related to expert sensemaking and decision making, human-machine teaming and human-centered AI. He is a Chartered Psychologist and Chartered Human Factors Specialist, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He is passionate about advancing the scientific understanding of human capabilities and limitations, and applying this knowledge to enhance the design and evaluation of systems, technologies, and policies.
